About the Museum
The Rubin Museum of Art is a dynamic environment that stimulates learning, promotes understanding, and inspires personal connections to the ideas, cultures, and art of the Himalayas. Now in its second decade, the Rubin has welcomed over 200,000 visitors in the past year and has a growing membership of more than 4,000 households. Within its five floors of galleries are several long-term rotating installations drawn from the permanent collection as well as frequent short-term exhibitions that are more broadly conceived. The Rubin’s collection includes over 3,500 objects spanning more than 1,500 years up to the present day. Renowned for its quality and depth, the collection focuses on art from the Tibetan Plateau and is broadened by a significant number of important examples from surrounding regions. The Rubin presents films, performances, and on-stage conversations as well as a robust roster of other educational initiatives. The ground floor, anchored by its magnificent staircase, is free and open to all visitors and provides a lively nexus for conversation, shopping, refreshment and dining.
About the Position
The Audio Visual Assistant (AV), PT must be responsible, reliable and have a strong knowledge of theatrical sound, lighting and video systems, as well as experience working with artists, performers and scholars. The ideal candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends. The incumbent will report to the Lighting & Audio Visual Manager.
Works with complex AV equipment including:
o Wireless microphone systems
o Digital mixing consoles
o Remote camera operation o Video screening, recording, and switching
o PA system setup and break down
Monitors and maintains all lighting matters in the Museum’s public spaces.
Operates, maintains and troubleshoots all AV equipment in gallery spaces.
Assists Operations and IT departments as needed with special events, public programs and internal meetings and activities.
Other duties as assigned.
High-School diploma or equivalent.
Experience working AV and lighting equipment – a plus.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) software applications.
Experience working with presentation software (Power Point, Keynote, Adobe) a plus
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with others across departments.
Detail oriented and ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-based environment.
Approximately 20 hours per week with flexibility to work as needed including nights and weekends.
$17 – $22 per hour, commensurate with experience.
