Overview

The Museum Educator is responsible for the development and/or delivery of new and existing programming at the Institute of Science focused largely on experiences for outreach to Flint, Pontiac, and other SE MI classrooms. Museum Educators are expected to demonstrate excellent presentation, interpersonal, classroom management, and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with a broad range of science topics is required. Responsibilities: Develop, implement, and deliver educational programs for children and adults offered through the Institute’s outreach programming. Travel in Institute vehicle to Flint, Pontiac, Detroit and/or other local districts on a daily or weekly basis. Deliver programs at the museum which include occasional evening, holiday, and weekend hours. Maintain upkeep of program materials. Other duties as assigned. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, science, or educational technology. Minimum of one year’s experience teaching upper elementary/middle school in formal or informal settings. Demonstrated experience and understanding of a variety of content delivery models. Certification in elementary or middle school education is preferred. Enthusiasm for science and eagerness to share that enthusiasm. Requires a valid Michigan driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. There are multiple openings to be filled for these grant-funded positions, that are anticipated to run through June 30, 2019. Positions will work over 30 hours per week.
