New York Hall of Science
NYSCI brings the excitement and understanding of science to children, families and teachers by galvanizing their curiosity and providing creative, participatory ways to learn. Located in Queens, the most diverse county in the U.S., NYSCI welcomes 500,000 visitors annually. Since our founding at the 1964-65 World’s Fair, NYSCI has earned an international reputation as a provider of teacher professional development, classroom resources and curricula, out-of-school time programming and other educational initiatives. Our exhibitions, programs, and products are informed by strategies of engagement called Design-Make-Play (DMP). The defining characteristics of DMP — open-ended exploration, imaginative learning, personal relevance, deep engagement and delight — are the ingredients that inspire passionate STEM learners.
NYSCI has approximately 120 full-time and over 180 part-time staff-members
35 hours per week position
Under supervision, assists in maintenance and repair of New York Hall of Science building(s), equipment and facilities; performs related work.
Performs responsible work to maintain and repair Museum mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
Performs preventive maintenance work on HVAC equipment
Responds to building emergencies
Performs related work as required
Performs work on the Museum grounds including garbage and snow removal
Performs basic painting jobs
Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisor or manager
HS diploma or equivalent
Valid NYS driver’s license
Ability to obtain NYFD Certificates of Fitness for Sprinkler S-12, Standpipe S-13, Supervision of Fire Alarm System S-95 and Indoor Place of Assembly Safety Personnel F-3
Ability to learn and work with BMC system
Ability to work overtime, extended hours, varying shifts, weekends and holidays as required and at times on short
