Requirements

Candidate must have a Master’s degree in History, Art, Museum Studies, Archaeology, or Anthropology, and four (4) years of professional experience in inventory, catalog, label and preservation of artwork, artifacts and other historical pieces including two years of supervisory experience.

Licenses and Certificates: Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state.
General Purpose

Under general direction, supervise, plan, coordinate and manage the physical and intellectual aspects of museum collections.

Typical Duties

Responsible for the proper collections care, or preventative conservation of objects by avoiding and minimizing deterioration and loss. Involves: Monitor the condition and environment of objects in storage and on exhibit, rotate sensitive objects off exhibit as needed, design, and prepare exhibit mounts for delicate objects on display and in storage. Evaluate current practices and professional standards in environmental control, pest management, security, and risk management in order to preserve, safeguard and eliminate hazard relating to collections.

Perform inventory of assigned collections. Involves: Measure, evaluate, describe and photograph collection contents and record their location within the museum. Retrieve objects from storage and examine them for potential exhibition or loan consideration.

Perform administrative duties as assigned. Involves: Supervise content development and delivery through exhibitions, educational programs and electronic delivery systems. Maintain accurate records pertaining to the museum collections. Assist in preparation and justification of annual budget.

Supervise assigned personnel. Involves: Plan, organize, direct and evaluate the work of others. Review daily assignments and project status and provide direction on unique issues or special projects. Appraise employee performance.  Provide training and development. Enforce personnel rules, regulations and work standards. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, or other employee status changes.

Salary Range: $46,704.00 – $63,482.42 per year
The starting salary is generally the beginning of the salary range.
